Questions
Australia immigration FAQs
How many points do I need for Australia PR?
The pass mark for skilled visas is 65 points. In practice, invitations usually go to people who score higher, and the level shifts between rounds and occupations. We count your points with you and show which changes, such as a better English score, would actually help.
Can I get Australia PR without a job offer?
Yes. The Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and the state nominated visa (subclass 190) do not need a job offer. You do need an eligible occupation, a positive skills assessment, a qualifying English score and enough points.
Is IELTS or PTE accepted for Australia immigration?
Yes. Home Affairs accepts several English tests, including IELTS and PTE Academic. A higher score earns more points, which is why many applicants retake the test to move from competent to proficient or superior English.
What is a skills assessment for Australia?
It is a check by the assessing authority for your occupation. It confirms that your degree and experience match that job in Australia. You need a positive assessment before you can be invited for a skilled visa.
